Junior Section March 2018
Since the last article, Junior Section has begun a busy period of the session, with several events and competitions in the near future.
In late January, 10 boys participated in the Subway Adventure, organised by BB Glasgow. Using the Glasgow Underground to visit sites close to the subway route, each team was charged with completing a list of tasks - some easier than others.
Among the challenges completed by our two teams were taking a photo of someone dressed as a headmaster at Scotland Street museum, visiting the Duke of Wellington statue (and his cone!), finding out what was written on a plaque at 331 North Woodside Road (the location of the first ever Boys' Brigade meeting) and learning who presented the statue of St George and Dragon to the people of Glasgow! A great afternoon was had by all - and plenty of exercise was enjoyed by both boys and leaders. My thanks to Helen Jamieson for helping on the day.
In the near future, we hope to be participating in the District Quiz in late-February and we will be hosting the District Figure Marching event in mid-March and will be aiming to retain the trophy we won last session.
Our badgework has also continued during this period, with boys enjoying a flipping good time as they tossed some pancakes! We learned about the day's importance in the run-up to Easter and even managed to sample a few - complete with jam.
Finally, we are looking forward to the second Uniformed Organisations service of the session on Sunday, March 18. We've been fortunate with the weather in recent times and will be hoping once again for some spring sunshine to appear for the parade following the service.
