Company Section - February 2019
The New Year has got off to a busy start with the Company hosting its annual Burns Supper on Burns Night itself, January 25th.
With plenty of food and drink on hand, this is an evening in which boys take the lead through a mixture of music, poetry and song, with participation counting towards the Company's awards programme as we learn about our national bard.
January also sees boys taking part in the District Go-Karting Competition at Scotkart in Clydebank, competing against other boys from across the area to record the fastest lap times.
This is one of the most popular events on the District calendar, and with our Company being responsible for organising the event, it’s a busy time for staff as well as boys.
Future events on the horizon include the District Badminton Competition and the District Drill Competition.
This month has also seen two of our senior boys, Nathan Alexander and Lewis MacDonald, taking part in the Building Your Skills Course run by Glasgow Battalion, which is one of the final requirements for boys wishing to earn their President’s Badge.
Nathan and Lewis are on course to earn the badge at the end of this session, which will allow them to start work on their Queen’s Badges this summer.
Finally, everyone in the Company was deeply saddened at the untimely passing of our former member Craig MacInnes, who died last month at the age of just 40 following a short battle with cancer.
Craig was a member of the 130th through its sections in the eighties and nineties, played in the Company’s bugle band, and served as a member of staff in the late-nineties. In recent years he kept in touch with the Company and attended several of our Annual Inspections.
Our thoughts and prayers are with Craig’s wife Jacklyn, mum and dad Jessie and Alastair and his brother Iain at this difficult time.
