Anchor Boys April 2016
We have had a busy few weeks in the run up to the end of this year's Anchor Boy Session. We are currently awaiting the results of the second colouring competition organised by Partick District.
We had our Parents' Evening/Prizegiving last Friday and were delighted to have the founder of the S.L.A.T.E. charity, Mr Michael Kerins with us accompanied by his wife Marion.
Our theme this year was "Animal Antics. " Earlier in the year we asked our group leaders to suggest a name for their groups and they came up with lions, tigers and hippos which then set the theme for their special night.
During the evening we shared some of our favourite games and presented Michael with a cheque for £150. This is money that the boys had raised by saving 20 pence pieces. They were then rewarded by Michael telling them a story about "wee tom" who went on safari and had adventures with several animals.
Towards the end of the evening we promoted five boys to the Junior Section. They all attended well during the year and joined in the activities with much enthusiasm. They are Calum Brown, Daniel Gillatt, John Mackay, Kyle Thomson and Ethan Walker-Reid. We wish them well in the next stage of their journey through the Boys' Brigade.
Grateful thanks go to my fellow officers Morag Miller and Mairi Black. Mairi joined us this year and has been a great asset and introduced some new ideas. Thanks also to our Church Officer Mr. Ian Murray, Church Secretary Mrs. Jill Syme and several of the officers and boys from Company Section for their help throughout the year. We are grateful that Mr. Gordon Smith played the piano and that Mrs. Brenda Stewart took care of the catering.
The boys still have a few treats to look forward to with a Lego Morning, a Games Evening and our outing in May to Edinburgh Zoo.
